Never over inflate the person's lungs or otherwise you may force air into their tummy. If you do this it may make them vomit. You need to be providing the person two full breaths. Permit the lungs to relax in between the breaths and listen as the air comes out and the lungs go down. You will learn how to do this in your CPR class.
C is for circulation. You can check to see if the person's heart is still beating by placing two fingertips on his carotid artery. You can find this artery in the depression between the neck muscles and windpipe. If there is no pulse when you check the victim you must perform chest compressions.
When you remember the ABCs of adult CPR you will have the opportunity to save someone's life. It is important that you know how to do this, especially if you are going to be around the water. The life you save may be someone near and important to you. You just can never predict when those cpr certification classes will pay off!
