A Perth-based motor trimming industry has started an unique range of protective machine deals to the Queensland mining sector which are conserving a number of the state's highest companies big bucks in substitution parts and preventative maintenance costs.
Modern motor trimmers has invested over five years investigating and building a range of ram covers for motors and excavators. The 'ripstop' PVC sleeves prevent wear and tear, possibly tripling the life anticipation of ram seals and chroming, and producing essential cost savings.
The covers, which sell for under $1,000, have also been designed for coal shoots, rock crushers and dust extractors, and are proving popular along with procurement gurus and mine planners who have quickly picked up on the savings and conveniences they offer.
MMT managing director Garry Spouge said the covers give resistance against stones, dust and salt pitting the machinery's rods, which can lead to the tearing of ram seals. They have been designed to enable easy self-installation by mechanics.
"Installing new ram seals can take several mechanics around half a day, and have clear security implications, especially where cranes or cherry pickers are wanted," he said.
"It's obviously a costly exercise with regards to manpower and also with machinery currently being down or out of use for a few hours.
"That's why we've created our ram covers to be efficiently installed, they slip on and are safe either side by a patented clamp; the entire process normally takes about 45 minutes and can enhance the life of the rod and seals by a couple of times.
"Given that an excavator ram can cost you in excess of $50,000, the cost savings are very remarkable, which is the reason why the demand for our covers is fast increasing."
One of the first businesses to match the protective covers to its entire truck fleet was Western-Australia, at its mine in far north WA.
Rio Tinto in Queensland and has simply placed a vast order for the sleeves, which MMT is producing in a range of safety colors, including yellow and orange.
"We're discovering that the more progressive companies are seeing the huge expense benefits, and our orders have additional by 20 per cent due to the fact first release into the Queensland market only six months ago," Mr Spouge added.
"We're as well working with a number of the larger miners to customized style preventative sleeves for other plant and machinery, and this bespoke, tailor-made service is a place which we can be looking to expand into in the future."
The evaluation and development work undertaken by MMT on the protective ram covers is an add-on to the company's core business, which is centered on the furnish, installation and maintenance of premium suspension seats and also seating products to the Australian mining, construction, engineering, developing and transport sectors.
